While some have been weathered by time, two early pyramids in Dahshur, the Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid, are well-preserved and were built during the reign of King Sneferu. These two architectural wonders provided an invaluable understanding of the transition of pyramid building that led to the world-famous Giza structures. After a fun-filled day of explorations and discoveries, you will be dropped at your hotel to end this delightful Cairo Day Tour. Meals on this Day include breakfast at the hotel and lunch during the tour.
The tour begins from Cairo to Alexandria with hotel pickup at 7:00 am by your Egyptologist guide. Travel through the city of Alexandria in a comfortable private air-conditioned vehicle. Arrival in Alexandria is expected at about 10:00 am to start introducing you to a city of great historical importance. In Alexandria, you will first see the Roman Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, a fascinating archaeological site believed to have been created sometime in the second century A.D. and served as a burial site for about 200 years. Afterward, you will observe Pompey Pillar. The name might wrongly suggest it was erected to honor Pompey; in fact, it was dedicated to Emperor Diocletian. Next, discover some of the hidden gems in Alexandria that are off the beaten path, offering a glimpse into the city’s lesser-known treasures. Your sightseeing continues with a visit to the Citadel of Sultan Qeitbay, a very interesting Islamic monument built in the 15th century by Mamluk Sultan Qeitbay. The castle incorporates the remains of an ancient lighthouse constructed by Ptolemy II in the 3rd century B.C. and was designed as a fortress against Crusader incursions. Lunch at an authentic Egyptian restaurant in Alexandria will be followed by your visit to the famous New Library of Alexandria. At the end of the day, return to check in at your hotel in Alexandria for an overnight stay, thinking of all the benefits you received from the day. The meals include breakfast at the hotel and lunch during the trip.
On this day, you will leave the hotel in Alexandria around seven o'clock for El Alamein, a place of great significance during World War II. El Alamein was one of the significant battle sites that were essential for holding on to the North African coast and Egypt's trade routes. This will be followed by a visit to the El Alamein Museum which is stuffed with war relics and memorabilia such as uniforms and photographs. Next will be a visit to the El Alamein War Cemetery, which contains the graves of several thousands of soldiers. The tour will also include visits to the German and Italian War Memorials in honor of the soldiers who died fighting there. After visiting these places,
You will then be on your way to the next destination of your tour Siwa. All meals will be served, including breakfast and lunch.
Your day will begin having breakfast in the hotel, followed by pick-up at 7:00 a.m. First on the agenda is a visit to the Temple of Alexander the Great, popularly called the Temple of the Oracle, where it is believed that Alexander sought evidence of his divine birth. Next, a visit to the salt lake follows, where such high salt content makes floating an effortless job. Try not to let the water in your eyes, and for a good swim, choose the clearest lake you can find. Afterward, you can rinse down with some mineral water. At 11:00 onward is Cleopatra's Bath, the fabled spring mentioned by travelers to Siwa, followed by the Amun Temple with some ruins still visible, though the majority has fallen into decay. Things to do in Siwa include visiting the Siwa House Museum, where you can learn about the local culture and history, and taking a stroll through the ancient mud-brick town to see traditional architecture. Lunch will be enjoyed at Abdo Restaurant, the flagship of Siwan cuisine. Soon afterward, you head to explore the Great Sand Sea on the 4x4 Jeep, where sandboarding on the breathtaking dunes will be on offer. From there to Bir Waheed, the hot and cold spring, where you will enjoy watching the sunset over traditional Bedouin tea. You can choose to either spend the night in the desert camp with a BBQ dinner or in a comfortable hotel in Siwa's Ecolodges. Meals will include breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
After breakfast at the camp from 7:00 am, you will head back to Siwa Oasis. Your first stop is the Shali Fortress, an ancient building that stands atop a hill in a protective wall; a structure that has housed the inhabitants of the oasis for nearly eight centuries in mud-brick buildings. Salt pieces were utilized to bolster the walls. However, due to rain, in the long history of this fortress, more harm has been done than good by human invaders over time. From there, you will make your way to the so-called Mountain of the Dead, just over a kilometer north of Shali. Here, North African tombs dating back to the twenty-sixth Dynasty, Ptolemaic, and Roman periods have been carved into the mountain's bulging side. Among many prominent tombs is Si Amun Tomb which displays stunning paintings and artifacts. You shall then depart for Cairo, stopping at Marsa Matrouh for lunch. Miles of sandy white beaches and clear waters surround Marsa Matrouh, which is thought by many to have been favored by Cleopatra herself. Finally, you will reach Cairo at around 8:00 pm to end your day.
Your day begins at about 6:00 am with a hotel pickup in Giza or Cairo and a long drive to Bahariya Oasis, located approximately 350 km east of Cairo. The four-hour drive includes stops for rest stops and coffee along the way. You arrive at about 10:00 am to switch onto a 4x4 Jeep to start a ride through the Black Desert. Lunch takes place at El Haize Oasis at noon. After lunch, shortly before 1:00 pm, you set off again toward the Valley of Agabat. There, by 3:00 pm is this stunning spot, which is deep in the White Desert. This breathtaking site was formed over millions of years with some very unusual rock formations of limestone, chalk, or perhaps even sand. By 4:30 pm, you'll explore the White Desert National Park, which is by far the best desert destination to be visited in Egypt. At 5:30 pm, you will pitch your tents and wait to watch the spectacular sunset. While you eat a simple yet delicious meal of chicken, rice, and vegetables, the sky will blaze in waves of pink and fiery orange, and the Bedouin staff will set up your dinner and camp in the desert for an unforgettable experience under the stars.
At 6:00 am, the sunrise in the desert is a sight worth seeing, but that is only the beginning! By 7:00 am, you will have breakfast in the quiet desert before heading back to Bahariya Oasis. At 9:00 am, the tour makes a stop at Crystal Mountain or Gebel al-Izzaz as it is known locally. These natural wonders, consisting of quartzite crystals, glitter brightly in the sunlight hence the name Jewel of the Desert. The Bahariya Oasis tourism experience continues as you journey through the area, where you’ll have a chance to explore more of its unique beauty. Relaxation in Bahariya Oasis will begin at 11:00 am, including a visit to Bir Sigam, a rejuvenating hot spring located about 7 km east of Bahariya on the Cairo road—a fantastic place to lay back and enjoy soaking. In the summertime, there will be a visit to Bir Madi, a nice cold spring. By noon, the drive back to Cairo commences, with an arrival back in Cairo expected around 4:30 pm.
