The tombs of the great Pharaoh Ramses II and the young Tutankhamen can be found there. It is the ultimate resting place of Egypt's monarchs from the 18th to the 20th dynasty. All the material possessions a monarch would require in the afterlife were abundantly available within the tombs. The majority of the interior tomb decorations are still in good condition. Of all the temples in ancient Egypt, the Hatshepsut Temple is among the most exquisite and well-preserved. The temple was constructed on three levels, which were connected by two broad ramps that ran through the middle. The only remnants of a fully functional mortuary temple are two enormous stone statues of King Amenhotep III known as the Colossi of Memnon. The blocks used to create these statues were transported 700 kilometers to Luxor from slabs of quartzite sandstone that were originally in Cairo. Set sail for Edfu and Esna. Spend the night at Edfu.

It was ordered by Hatshepsut (1508–1458 BC), possibly to complement the Lateran Obelisk, which was originally at Karnak and was later brought to the Lateran Palace in Rome. The Philae temple is dedicated to the goddess Isis, of love and beauty.
